There's been plenty reflection today on the destruction that Hurricane Sandy brought to Lindenhurst last year.
But out of the devastation came wonderful people and organizations who opened their hearts to those in need. We asked on our Facebook page who deserves to be recognized and thanked for their efforts after the storm. Here's a few responses:
Liz Calder Oberlin: My senior mom is/was up there and a huge shout out to The Lindenhurst Fire Dept especially the Ladies Aux. who helped tremendously and the Lindenhurst Moose Lodge 1421 had members serving soup and sandwiches in different areas because the lodge was flooded!! OLPH Church helped tremendously as well! You guys rock! Thank you!
Margie Schoof McAlinden: I am totally grateful for Duffy's Ale House, for being so generous in giving our family discounts, my dear friend AnneJeannine Chimenti Cuozzo for her use of hot showers and a little fix of TV, (and old hot dog buns) LOL my neighbors, Red Cross doing drive bys with supplies and of course Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church
Florence Cooke: Wellwood Grille site was a God send. Pay It Forward Organization was incredible. My niece & son live so. of Montauk H'way & received so much help from amazing, kind, generous volunteers.
Edward Szyjko: Duffy's Wings, did a great deal to help Lindenhurst...
David Wallach: Whoever organized the toy drive and the businesses that worked as drop off locations should be recognized
