Tanger Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

As if the ladies in one's home needed another reason to shop, here's one that could save their lives.

From now until October 25, , located in the Town of Babylon, is going "pink" for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For a $1 donation to breast cancer research, shoppers will receive a Pink Card that'll earn them a 25 percent discount on a single item at participating stores at the .

Proceeds from the Power of Pink campaign will benefit the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition.

Second only to non-melanoma , breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

For women in Suffolk County, the statistics hit even closer to home. The Long Island Breast Cancer Study Project found that Suffolk County has both the highest rate of incidents and deaths due to breast cancer than anywhere else in the state.

In Lindenhurst 171 cases of breast cancer were recorded by the New York State Department of Health from 2002-2006, and women in the area have a 15 percent higher rate of incidence that expected.

It's one of the reasons why recently opened its new Women's Imaging Center, which will provide women with advanced detection technology.
