Outside the cafeteria in the rotunda area, things were hopping. First up were Philip Ricciardi’s Daniel Street elementary Dantasticks at 1:15 p.m. They were followed by the elementary school orchestra, led by Paul Cronin. At 2:15, Virginia Cardiello, from Rall elementary, led a program of recorder music. And to wrap things up in the rotunda, the elementary school orchestra performed again, led now by Mrs. Vaccaro.
“That was the recorder group’s first concert ever,“ said Marvel.
Meanwhile in the auditorium, ensembles, orchestras and performing groups from the high school, each introduced by Superintendent Richard Nathan, entertained visitors.
The high school’s was up first. Then came the song and dance group “Odyssey,” in dazzling red and black costumes. The high school’s string orchestra and symphony orchestra followed, then the all-female singers. The afternoon of performance in the auditorium concluded with theatrical skits by school dramaturges.
“It’s hard to believe we’ve had this for 10 years now,” remarked Nathan.
Added Marvel: “Going forward, what I would hope to achieve is to have more groups participate that didn‘t this year. We had some who attended the NYSSMA majors and did very well.”
A few days later on May 18, the LHS presented its Second Annual Night of Photography, hosted by Suzette Picozzi's Digital Photo club. There were more then 300 photographic pieces on display, a Chinese Auction of framed student images, plus photographic items for sale.
The proceeds went to the Digital Photography Club and the Digital Photography Scholarship for the club.
