Retired NYPD Officer Accidentally Fires Gun in Nassau Doctor's Office

A bullet struck the gun's owner and the doctor Wednesday morning, police say.

OCEANSIDE, NY - A 77-year-old retired NYPD officer accidentally fired a gun inside an Oceanside doctor's office Wednesday morning while he was showing the doctor the weapon, Nassau Police said.

A bullet struck the gun's owner in the thigh and then hit the doctor in the right foot, police said. Both men are in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The retired officer, who police did not name, removed his licensed 10mm semi-automatic pistol to show the doctor when the weapon accidentally discharged at 10:22 a.m. inside an office located at 3227 Long Beach Road.

No other injuries were reported and there is no criminality suspected at this time, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
