Americans And Their Machines

I went to the Museum of American Armor at Bethpage, NY this Labor Day weekend. I expected to see the historic armor in all its glory, but I didn’t expect the poignancy of the military armor and the work being done on our Long Beach shore these many days.

When we think of labor, we thing of civilian workers and we salute them with the honor they deserve. But many who labored for America did so in tanks, planes and ships too.

I saw a direct parallel to the Americans and machinery used on our beach reconstruction and the Americans and machinery that kept us safe so long, and so many years ago.

So it is with a sincere heart that I include our American military when we salute labor this Labor Day:
