Annual 9/11 Memorial Pays Tribute To Victims In Point Lookout

The Sept. 11 sunrise ceremony is open to the public.

POINT LOOKOUT, NY — Once again, the solemnity of Sept. 11 will be on display at Town Park Point Lookout.

The Town of Hempstead will host the 9-11 Sunrise Memorial for the 21st anniversary of the deadly terrorist attacks.

As Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin told residents in a mailer, "There's a reason why we as Long Islanders return to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean year after year: We have not forgotten. We cannot forget. We will never forget."

So, the town park remains an annual pilgrimage for hundreds to reflect.

The Town of Hempstead built a memorial wall that pays tribute to the victims and includes a 30-foot steel beam from the World Trade Center wreckage.
