Benches, Bombs and Baloney
So many benches with so many memories on our boards. So much to think about, so near and so far.

If you walk, jog or bike our boards you at many times stop and rest on a nearby bench a bit.
Some of us read the plaques on the benches often. There are so many stories behind the plaques. People who died in war. People who died in the World Trade Center terror. People who died in car accidents. People who died of natural causes. People who died in ways we will never learn. But they were all loved by family and friends who honor them here.
We might reflect on these souls, some of whom left us way too young. Some not young at all and had what we call—a “good run.”

When we sit under the sun maybe we need to appreciate the warmth more, breathe the salt air more deeply, for now we feel, for now we breathe, for now we see and smell the sea.
When we go home to our loved ones maybe we need to hug them just a little bit longer, just a little bit harder, a little more often.

As we sit on these memorial benches we might think of how lucky we are to be alive, alive in a free country.
Others on this tiny blue planet don’t have much to feel lucky about. Maybe as we sit we need to reflect on them too, just a little bit more.
