Rolling steel thundered across the sands to mitigate our tidal surges. Can we build our consciousness to mitigate our surges on wildlife?

We all look forward to the completion of the Army Corps of Engineers Long Beach shore renovation project. As it does its work, maybe we can look forward to a renovation of our conservation memoranda too.
We can be mightily proud of the incredible work of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, supervised by the diligent NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation. But it hasn’t been easy.
The Army Corps’ challenges have been difficult. Vast tonnage of boulders and sand had to be removed and replaced. Dangerous machinery had to traverse our shore while working around the people and the shorebirds that populate our sands.
