Brain Smiles
In these times of anxiety, sometimes even dread, I find it's important to pay attention to the smiley faces of life.

The anxiety comes in many forms, politics, relationships, financial security, on and on. Sure these issues need attention, a plan, then action.
But in any life there are smiley faces, we just too often, don’t pay enough attention to them. And these are the treasures of life. They are what makes life worth living.
I see a metaphor in the waves that come upon our shore day after day, each one new and singular…in the moment. But it’s so easy to dwell on the moments long gone, “Why did my sister/brother treat me so badly?” or dread or anticipate the waves still far out to sea, “What if North Korea does attack us?”

I can deal with those past and present issues as best I can. But dwelling on them doesn’t improve my life, my happiness…in the present.
There is really only one wave to consider, one moment in life, the one before me right now. I just need to identify the wave, the smiley moment, and appreciate it.

The more time I spend appreciating individual moments the happier I am, it’s as simple as that.
