E-Z Check Washing, At a Corner Near You

Do you think you are pretty much secure in the things you rely on…like the mail? Think again.

We Citybythesea seasoned have seen much in the way of waves of torment: Hurricane Sandy, local corruption, annual fiscal, stress among them. But we always felt pretty much secure about certain things we use daily, like the mail.

But if you have been paying any attention to the news lately you’ve seen even that is being threatened. We’ve had a rash of mail collection-box “fishing" raids that have garnered big catches for thieves.

It’s becoming rampant lately with torn-open envelopes being strewn on the sidewalk near collection boxes. Checks from the envelopes are re-written from the intended recipient to thieves, and the amounts hiked to enrich them mightily.

I’ve looked into these road raids and found although we all may be vulnerable, there are ways to deter it.
