John Daly One-Mile Swim

The City of Long Beach will be holding the annual John Daly One Mile Ocean Swim on Aug. 21 at National Boulevard Beach, according to a press release from the city. Check in for participants is at 7:45 a.m. and the swim will start at 9 a.m. 

The swim helps to raise money for memorial scholarships for graduating seniors of the Long Beach Patrol. Daly was a Long Beach policeman, firefighter, lifeguard and naval reservist who passed away in 2007. Scholarship recipients must show professional, service and ethics in the patrol. 

Registration can be done at longbeachny.org/parksandrecreation. Applications must be received before Aug. 18 to be eligible the $30 pre-registration fee. Application received after Aug. 18 will cost $35. All swimmer must be 16 years of age and older and must be able to swim the course in 55 minutes or less.
