
OCEANSIDE, NY - Dozens of people have reportedly been displaced from their homes after a fire broke out in Oceanside early Monday morning.
No injuries were reported following the blaze that started around 4 a.m. at a store at the corner of Long Beach Road and West Windsor Parkway, police said.
The Long Beach Fire Department responded at about 4:30 a.m. to assist after the Oceanside Fire Department was met with a "heavy fire load upon arrival with fire visible through the roof and out the back of the building," according to a post Long Beach Fire Department Facebook page.
The back of the building collapsed and all firefighters were safely evacuated, the post says.
According to police, upon arrival officers discovered a strip of stores with apartments on top was on fire.
The D&D Convenience Store was fully engulfed but officers were able to evacuate the residents of the apartments.
Over 60 residents were displaced due to the damage.
The American Red Cross was notified to assist and provide shelter.
The Oceanside, Baldwin, Island Park, Long Beach, East Rockaway, Freeport and Rockville Centre Fire Departments responded to extinguish the fire.
More than 75 firefighters and 14 pieces of apparatus were used to fight the blaze.
The fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time. The cause is undetermined.
