Footprints by the Sea
Did you ever lose something of value on the beach, something expensive? How did you immediately feel about it?

Good beach weather is just round the bend, believe me. And with it we will sometimes lose our stuff. I’m on our beach all year round as are many of you.
I lost something on our sand recently and in retrospect my reaction to the loss was startling. After all, it was...a thing.
We accumulate things as we go through life: jewelry, electronics, cars, TVs. We think of them as our valuables. We guard them, insure them, the possession of them makes us feel good. It’s our STUFF.

The thing I lost brought instant insecurity, even acute anxiety to me. I was standing there alone when I realized the loss but I know if I was with someone they’d have observed my face go from ruddy red…to the color of clam. Many of you have had such moments.
Losing our valuables is a striking moment. But this moment led me to a slap-in-the-back-of-the-head realization:
