Get A Bigger Boat: Shark Sighting Closes LI Beaches Again.

A shark was spotted in the water off Lido Beach, prompting the beaches to be red-flagged and closed to swimming.

LIDO BEACH, NY — Now that Shark Week has officially started on TV, it seems some of the sharks in the water are coming closer to shore to get a better look.

A shark was spotted in the water off Lido Beach by a Town of Hempstead lifeguard, prompting the town to prohibit swimming at all of its beaches. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran posted on Twitter that shark was also spotted at Nickerson Beach, and that beach is also closed to swimming for the rest of the day.

The beaches were also closed on Sunday after a local fisherman caught a shark in the waters.

Shark sightings are seemingly becoming common this summer. At the end of July, shark sightings closed South Shore beaches to swimming for five straight days.

The sharks took some time off last week when Tropical Storm Isaias was churning the water, and in the aftermath. But it seems they're now back.
