Got Grit? They Did! Grow a Pair!
This Memorial Day weekend is like none other at Long Beach, NY. Maybe a bit uncomfortable? Maybe it should be.

Every year we raise the red white and blue along our boardwalk rails for Memorial Day weekend.
We jog, bike, stroll on the boardwalk. We gather on the beach for sun and fun: swimming, volleyball, surfing, or just plain tanning. It’s a very comfortable weekend. Some of us even have thoughts of gratitude amidst the fun.
This year we are in the midst of a COVID war so things are more than a bit off. We are asked to keep safe distances, biking has been limited to certain hours, we are asked to...wear a mask.

Some of us find these asks intrusive on our freedoms. Some say, (and I heard this many times on TV), “I’m not wearing a mask, I woke up in a free country this morning,” or similar phrasings.
I don't think I'm alone in my keeping-things-in-perspective attitude. It helps me a lot in my "discomfort".

Maybe we all need to step back and look at what being uncomfortable means this Memorial Day.
