His Desk, White Sand, Ocean Waves

It was a cold and windy winter day, way too windy for a boardwalk bike ride. But I was determined to get out in the sun and the salt air.

I came upon a group of enthusiastic young men who made me think about Americans and the work choices they make.

Sure we all have to put bread on the table and it takes a lot of bread these days to put it there. Often we make "practical" career choices, our passion for particular favorite endeavors takes a back seat. We need to pay the bills!

But at what cost? Did you ever encounter a doctor who demonstrates such poor human interaction that you know he really would have been better off as an engineer? That you, your family, would have been better off if he had?

If it's possible at all, I think in the long run, the very long run, working in your passion, your joy, makes for a happy life...for you, for those you serve, and those you live with.
