Incumbents Lead Tight City Council Race In Long Beach

LONG BEACH, NY — There were three City Council seats on the Election Day ballot in Long Beach.

Incumbents John Bendo (D) and Michael Delury (R) were among the top three vote-getters with 100 percent of the precincts, according to the Nassau County Board of Elections.

1. Bendo: 3,541 votes, 18 %
2. Roy Lester: 3,524 votes 17.9 %
3. Delury: 3,358 votes 17.1 %

Just falling short was Tina Posterli with 3,341 votes 17 %. Absentee ballots may still be outstanding for the result.

County Legislator Denise Ford, who represents Long Beach from the 4th Legislative District, had a comfortable lead against Claudia Lovas.

Ford, the incumbent, received 10,318 votes or 69.1 %. Her Democratic challenger Lovas got 4,587 votes, for 30.7 %.

Long Beach native Todd Kaminsky lost his bid to become Nassau County District Attorney. He conceded the race to Anne Donnelly on Wednesday.

"Last night’s result was not what we wanted—but I am so proud of the campaign we ran and the people who volunteered their time and energy to knock on over 100,000 doors across Nassau County," Kaminsky said in a statement. "Long Islanders want safe communities and government free from corruption. In my role as a senator, I will continue to serve my constituents and remain committed to those critical priorities and others to move Nassau forward."

Donnelly's margin of victory was more than 50,000 votes.
