The Indian Summer of Life

Sometimes for me, life along the ocean's edge brings out a perspective on life itself.

Summer’s gone, right? But some days along our Long Beach shore, you’d never know it.

Autumn can sometimes be an Indian summer experience, where the weather is more like July than October. It puts an unexpected smile on one’s face, beach people have a summer-renewed air about them as they jog, play volleyball, surf and kiteboard among other summer fun activities.

I’ve been strolling along our shore these days and taking it all in. Anyone who follows my blog knows I often urge a mindful presence in all that is before us and not to dwell on things past. But I have to admit, watching the young, and not so young, on our shore caused me to look back. Yes, I was seduced into a retrospective of my life, from the springtime years to these current autumn sunset days.

But it wasn’t so much of a look-back as it was a look-into, a being with the beauty of life before me. The past years of my life only served as a background for the relief of the present. A presence in which unfolded a more powerful, a more vivid appreciation of life. Please join me in it:
