Lifeguard II

I posted a music photo video recently about our Long Beach lifeguards. I revisited the subject once more because it’s a special time of life for many of them. A time of building memories of young lives and days in the sun. Days with a future unfolding beyond the horizon before them, a future of uncertainty, of possibilities, of hopes.

We all have memories of our early days, the days of taut skin and agile bodies. Of sand and surf and gals and guys. Of tussled hair and lots of swagger.

Memories of our first jobs and heavy responsibility.

Lifeguards, we count on them, our families rely on them. We can’t thank them enough for their vigilance. I never see a Long Beach lifeguard just marking time, phoning it in. They take it serious.

How many waders and swimmers and jetty climbers still walk this planet, under the sun, due to a lifeguard's diligence and effort...under that sun? We'll never really know. But I think we all salute them for their work.
