Long Beach To Appoint New Acting City Manager

Long Beach has not had a full-time city manager since last January.

The City of Long Beach is set to vote on appointing an acting city manager at a special City Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday to vote on whether or not to appoint Robert M. Agostisi as Acting City Manager. If approved, he would take office on Feb. 6.

Agostisi is currently the Corporation Counsel for the city. He is the legal adviser of the City Council and acts as the city's main attorney.

The City Manager position has been empty since last January when Jack Schnirman was sworn in as the Nassau County Comptroller. The city appointed Police Commissioner Michael Tangney as Acting City Manager after Schnirman left, and he has been serving double-duty since.

According to Newsday, Agostisi will receive a $30,000 raise when he takes the position, which would put him at Schnirman's salary when he left. Agostisi will no longer take a salary as council, Newday reported, but will remain active in major cases the city is already facing.
