Long Beach Awarded $250,000 Grant From State
The money, in part, went to modernize the fire department's pages so members can more quickly respond to emergencies.

The City of Long Beach, in partnership with the office of Sen. Todd Kaminsky, has been awarded $250,000 in grant funding through the New York State Community Capital Assistance Program.
As part of this grant, 25 new pagers were purchased for the Long Beach Fire Department. Pagers are the LBFD's primary alerting system used by volunteer members for fire and EMS calls. Firefighters carry pagers on their person and at home, even while sleeping, to be at the ready during emergencies.
The department lost several pagers in member’s homes during Hurricane Sandy. A number of the department’s units are outdated and no longer supported by the manufacturer. The fire department has been slowly replacing the older units, and the new 25 units will give the majority of the city’s volunteer force dependable pagers.
