Long Beach Details North Shore Bulkhead Projects

See if your bulkhead is going to be replaced, and what you have to do to get ready for the project.

The City of Long Beach is holding a meeting on Thursday to go over the north shore bulkhead project with residents, and released details of the project ahead of the meeting.

The city will be working to repair and raise bulkheads in the Canals area, West Bay Drive and Lindell Boulevard, and northern street ends of the West End. The first work is scheduled to start next week.

The $14.5 million project is being funded by a Community Development Block Grant from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Canals

  • The east side of the Doyle Street canal, from East Chester Street to the bay.
  • The east side of the Heron Street canal, from East Chester Street to the bay.

West Bay Drive area

  • West Bay Drive between Washington Boulevard in the west and Magnolia Boulevard in the east.
  • The north end of Lindel Boulevard.

West End

  • The north ends of Pennsylvania, Arizona, Delaware, Wyoming, Virginia, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland, Indiana, Georgia, Connecticut, and Ohio avenues

Property owners who abut the work area are responsible for removing all structures on the bulkhead, such as docks, decks, rails and fencing. Because the project is publicly funded the city cannot remove the materials. Any property owners who do not remove the structures will have the fee to remove them added to their city taxes.

Residents can contact the city's contractor and pay to have the company remove and reinstall the structures. The contractor is Woodstock Construction Corp., and they can be called at 516-922-9506
