Congresswoman Kathleen Rice announced that the Long Beach Fire Department has been awarded nearly $100,000 from the federal government to purchase new equipment for its ambulances.

The department was awarded $98,181 through FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The LBFD will use the money to purchase new defibrillators for its ambulances.

“Local firefighters are our first line of defense, and this funding will allow the Long Beach Fire department to invest in the life-saving equipment they need to do their job to the best of their ability,” said Rice. “I’m very pleased that this grant will provide funding for new defibrillators, and I’ll keep working to ensure all our local first responders have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”
