Long Beach to Offer Overdose Prevention Workshop

The free event will take place next week.

LONG BEACH, NY - Long Beach officials recently announced that they will be offering a free overdose prevention workshop next week.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, County Legislator Denise Ford and State Senator Todd Kaminsky have partnered with Long Beach area PTAs, the Long Beach City Council and a coalition on underage drinking to offer a program, which will be hosted by the Long Beach Police Department.

The workshop will take place on Monday, May 23 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Long Beach City Hall, located on the 6th Floor of 1 West Chester Street.

“This free Overdose Prevention Seminar will help save lives and keep families whole,” Mangano said. “Together with the Heroin Prevent Task Force, we are combatting the heroin and pain pill epidemic through education, awareness, enforcement, and treatment initiatives.”

Attendees will learn how and when to administer Naloxone - the lifesaving antidote that can reverse the fatal effects of an opiate overdose - and learn the warning signs of drug addiction, treatment options, personal stories of recovery and more.

Long Beach resident Larry Glenz, who wrote a book about losing his son Kevin to an opiate overdose will discuss his father/son relationship that withstood seven years of addiction.

Residents will learn about Nassau’s newest medication-supported treatment program that combines counseling with a once a month extended-release injection of Naltrexone.
