Long Beach, Point Lookout Men Win Boating Race
Town of Hempstead honors locals for winning 635-mile-long Newport-Bermuda.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony J. Santino, Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney, Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad and Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin recently congratulated CJ Bocklet of Point Lookout and Alex Hummel of Long Beach, the captain and co-navigator of the crew of Perigee, that won its division in the Newport-Bermuda, 635-mile ocean yachting race.
The crew, which in addition to Bocklet and Hummel, consisted of six other members, battled 40-plus knot winds and 20-foot seas to win the their division and come in ninth out of the 195 entries. The crew left from Town of Hempstead’s East Marina in Point Lookout and returned home to cheers from members of the Point Lookout Yacht Club.
