Long Beach's Top Legal Advisor Steps Down From Government Role

LONG BEACH, NY —Rich Berrios, the City of Long Beach's corporation counsel, is leaving for other opportunities.

Berrios has been with Long Beach government since 2015 and was named the corporation counsel in July 2021, according to his LinkedIn page.

Ronald Walsh, acting city council manager and police commissioner, said in the Tuesday night meeting that it's "not about money" for Berrios, who is expected to step down from his role in a month.

The corporation counsel is the official legal advisor of the city council.

"Not only thank you, but the amount of information and the amount of knowledge you've given me in just the two years I've been here has been completely invaluable," Walsh said.

Walsh led a round of applause after stating, "whether it's appropriate or not."

Berrios, who got his degree at St. John's University School of Law, had previously been a deputy and assistant corporation counsel.
