Man Brutally Assaulted Girlfriend, Then An Officer: Police
Police say the man beat his girlfriend, stole her car, hit her with it and then tried to fight police when they pulled him over.

Nassau police arrested a Mastic Beach man yesterday afternoon after police say he brutally assaulted his girlfriend, and then police officers.
According to police, Brant Ovsianik, 35, of Mastic Beach, got into an argument with his 37-year-old girlfriend at her home on Lynbrook Avenue in Point Lookout early Monday. Police say the argument escalated and Ovsianik began to slap his girlfriend in the face numerous times, causing bruising and pain.
Later in the day, police say Ovsianik began to yell at her again and hit her in the face, and then slammed her head against the floor. After that, police say he stabber her in the left side with a screwdriver.

As the woman tried to call for help, police say Ovsianik began to choke her and cover her mouth. She managed to break free and tried to call 911 using both her cell phone and the house phone, but police say Ovsianik broke both of them.
Ovsianik then got into the woman's 2013 Honda, police say. The woman tried to stop him from taking her car by walking in front of the driveway to stop him from backing out, but police say Ovsianik backed the car up into her. He then put the car into drive, police say, and hit the woman again, injuring her legs and feet, and then drove away.

A short time later, around 3 p.m., Nassau Police officers say Ovsianik driving near Lido Boulevard and Lynbrook Avenue and pulled him over. Ovsianik got out of the car and punched one of the officers in the face, police say. The officers then tried to arrest him, but he resisted by flailing his arms, police said. After a brief struggle, officers were able to place him under arrest, police said.
Police said that, at his arrest, Ovsianik was in possession of a sublingual mouth strip and three and a half orange pills, both believed to be the opioids Buprenorphine and Naloxone, as well as a plastic bag containing what is believed to be marijuana. Police say he was also in possession of his girlfriend's jewelry and cell phone, as well as a gravity knife.
The officer that was struck was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries to his jaw and wrist. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries and further evaluation and treatment. Ovsianik was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated for swallowing pills.
Ovsianik is charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, third-degree criminal mischief, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle, leaving the scene of an incident, driving without a license and criminal obstruction of breathing. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
