Marilyn, and Other Misfits

People have much to say, when I listen, not with just my ears, but, more importantly, my heart.

I bike the boards of Long Beach often. And often I pass people many times without "inquiring within.”

When I do the stop-and-chat I’m sometimes amazed at what I discover. Sometimes they have unique insight about a hobby, a sport or of conservation issues of which we might be unaware. Insights we are all happy to learn.

But sometimes too, what I learn is much deeper than the facts at hand, it’s more about the heart of the person and maybe my heart as well. Maybe yours too.

I came upon a man on our Long Beach boardwalk who had an unusual life, a life that included experiences with Marilyn Monroe. My chat with him revealed much I didn’t know about Marilyn. But the chat also revealed how much in common this man had with her. And I think many of you.
