Puppy Rescued From Research Facility Joins Long Island Home: Report
The beagle was among 4,000 dogs saved from a facility in Virginia.
LONG BEACH, NY — One of thousands of puppies rescued from a research facility in Virginia has found a forever home in Long Beach.
Mandu, a 9-week-old beagle, is living with Leigh Cohen Martz, the New York Post reported.
The puppies were reportedly being bred for drug experiments.

It was one of the largest dog rescue efforts in American history, the newspaper said.
"She doesn’t truly know how lucky she is," said Martz, according to the Post. "She would have been sold for experiments."

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Justice sued Envigo RMS after claims of Animal Welfare Act violations at the facility in Cumberland, Virginia, CNN said.
The Humane Society said Envigo provided inadequate veterinary care and insufficient food for the puppies.
