The Rising Tides of Humankind

We see our shores being fortified with new jetties, dunes, berms; pumped sand from the sea bed off shore. All to help us try to stem the inexorably rising sea levels and subsequent high tides.

But all we can do it mitigate the action.

Our Southern border experiences a rising tide too, just as inexorable as the North Atlantic's. This tide is of men and women moved by the same power, the same momentum…as the sea’s. The surge to feed a family. Feeding one’s family, a primal hominid force of nature. A force to cause human tides to surge.

Were it not for the luck of our place of birth on this planet we too might be part of this latter tide.

Yes, hurricanes, tidal surges, biblical rain events…borders under siege, walls, sea walls. Yes,the times and the tides, indeed, are a changin’:
