Sometimes, on my Long Beach strolls, I come upon a sight that enthralls me, sometimes, though, it's more than that.

I strolled our shore the last day of May and came upon our annual delights, the oystercatchers.
I’ve been busy of late, like most of you, so I’ve not been on my retirement post, the waters edge, as much as I'd like to be.
It was a very hot day for May, about 90, you might recall. But that set the stage for my encounter.

It was a particular delight to see a family of oystercatchers seeking shade under an empty lifeguard stand. I don’t find them there very frequently, usually the chicks are huddled around Mom down by the orange cones that try to keep them safe.
Being atop the lifeguard mound put them eye height to me, so I did have an excellent opportunity to get some good shots.

I do keep a good distance from them so as not to disturb or harass them. It’s not only an ethical thing to do, it’s also the law, you see.
But as I took the photos and looked at them later, I saw they told a story that is apt for the news of the day.
Maybe, sometimes we need to listen—with our eyes. I think this was one of those times:http://leebythesea.me/2022/06/01/save-the-children/
