Simian By The Sea

There is always something going on at the beach. But sometimes, even I'm surprised.

Sometimes I go to the beach to relax, enjoy the sights, the scents, the sounds. But it seems my mind is always fishing, fishing for metaphors. And such a catch landed right in front of me.

I sat in my sand chair watching birds just off our Long Beach shore diving for sustenance. Now that's not unusual at all, sometimes they're gulls, terns, etc. revealing to fishermen a school of baitfish just below the seas's surface.

But I couldn’t determine what species they were, until later. Then, in the sand right in front of me, a shore show took place that captured my attention...and I captured in my camera.

It was, to me at least, a remarkable series of wildlife shots that captured survival mode at its most extreme.

But to me, more importantly, it seemed to be a display of what I think is a pressing issue today. You may think so too, maybe not.

But it is worth a look and you can make up your own mind. You can also find out what species those mysterious seabirds were off shore.
