Speeding Motorcyclist Taken Into Custody At Irish Day Parade: PD

LONG BEACH, NY — Police took a man into custody during the Irish Day Parade on Saturday.

While on patrol in the West End, Sergeant Brett Curtis saw a man speeding the wrong way on a motorcycle without a helmet and was barefoot, police said.

Officers were stationed at Wisconsin Street and West Beech Street to stop the motorcyclist near the large crowds celebrating.

Detective Lieutenant Stefan Chernaski and Inspector Richard DePalma were able to grab the motorcyclist from the moving vehicle. They wrestled him to the ground and placed him in handcuffs, police said.

"The actions of these Officers, putting themselves in harm’s way clearly prevented what could have resulted in a tragedy," Commissioner Ronald Walsh said.

One officer was hurt apprehending the man, identified as Kevin Quezada, 28, from New Hyde Park, detectives said.

He faces multiple charges, including with driving while intoxicated, second-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree assault.
