Spring Hydrant Flushing Resumes In Long Beach

The two-week process is to keep the fire hydrants working effectively.

LONG BEACH, NY — The City of Long Beach's spring hydrant flushing resumes Monday starting at 9 p.m. Residents can expect to be impacted along Long Beach Boulevard, where it heads east and on Magnolia Boulevard westbound.

There may be some low pressure and/or water discoloration overnight and into the morning.

Long Beach is conducting the flushing for two weeks through May 15.

The hydrants are flushed in the spring and fall to ensure they working are properly and also to remove iron deposits and other sediments from the water, the City of Long Beach website stated.

Once the flushing is completed, the water quality will return to normal.
