Sucking It UP

Long Beach is being heavily renovated through deep-sea dredging. That's fantastic, sure, but shouldn't we think deeper?

As we all are so well aware our Long Beach park had been under heavy renovation for some noisy, dusty, earth shaking time now. But work is moving along swiftly and effectively. And we can heartily thank the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers overseen by the NYS Dept of Environment for the awesome work they have done.

Locals have been witness by eye, ear and odor to each step of the work. Some businesses have been hurt, yes, some very substantially, by the necessary work.

But that’s the key word, “necessary.”

We are willing to put up with the immediate pain for the greater good of the future. It’s how we live our lives responsibly, we put off immediate gratification for a future good. Yes, you all know that. Duh.

But our leaders don’t seem willing to see it that way. At least that’s how I see it. Maybe you too. For our future we need to be able deal with the present pain by...just sucking it up.
