
We’ve endured the loss of life twice within a week on our Long Beach shore. That is just simply awful.
I've written to extent here and in my blog about loss of our shorebird life and how it saddened us. This time the sadness involves human life.
We go to the beach fully expecting a day of tanning, tossing a Friz, surfing the sea. We really give little thought to the danger that could be just a minute or two, a misstep or two, away.

We can be relaxing in the summer ease and breeze one minute, then gasping for air and survival the next few. We need to know that. We need to remember that.

I spoke with a Long Beach lifeguard who has about half a century of experience. He told me a few things I hadn’t known, and I suspect many of you didn’t know either. Very important things. Things that may keep us and our loved ones safe...alive.
