Surfing, Skating, Movies: NY Surf Week Descends On Long Beach

The Long Beach waters will soon be filled with some of the best surfers on the east coast.

LONG BEACH, NY — It's about to get all types of gnarly in Long Beach as the 10th annual NY Surf Week begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday. The summertime festival brings together surf and skating contests, a boardwalk party and other celebrations of the culture surrounding Long Beach and the seas, according to the events page website.

The surfing contest will be broken down into four divisions.

The first day of the festival will feature a happy hour and opening reception on the Riverside/Long Beach Blvd.

Surf Week will also serve as the venue for two film premiers, "And Two If By Sea" and "Empire Next," which explore various aspects of the surfing world.

Surfing and skating events are open to the general public. Each event is free to watch from the boardwalk, but $12 to watch on the beach for Long Beach residents and $15 for out-of-towners.

Event locations for the festival include the Bridgeview Yacht Club, Long Beach Recreation, Pop's Seafood Shack & Grill, Riverside Blvd. & Boardwalk and the Riverside/Long Beach Blvd. beach.
