Together, and Splashing It

Were you able to get to the Long Beach Polar Bear Plunge? Well, it was more than a Plunge.

The Long Beach Polar Bear Plunge was cancelled last year due to Covid. This year, despite the mid-twenties temp, people were eager to leap into the icy sea.

I was there with two cameras and my iPhone. I shot many photos and enjoyed the fun along with the plungers.

But as often happens, I see things beyond what’s apparent, beyond the fun.

I saw people coming together, as one, beyond their thoughts about Trump, or red states or blue, climate change or inflation. They came to enjoy life with each other for a good cause.

You might consider this a type of meditation. You aren’t caught up in the me of life, you aren’t thinking about elections or religion or race. It’s as if you are breathing in life and noticing it. You are simply coming together to have fun while supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Maybe when we participate in gathering such as this, we might look at each other and see ourselves.

It might just carry over when we are confronted with today’s issues.
