When Bone Meets Board

Many of us find the rules of our boardwalk to be trifling, to be disregarded. But they are there for a reason and if they weren’t in place disorderly and dangerous conditions would prevail.

We see them fairly often, skateboarders, dog walkers, on our boardwalk and they are in violation of the rules. And the violators do often receive summonses and fines for the violations. But there is real damage done by these violators, sometimes to others, sometimes to themselves.

The boards are much slicker than blacktop roads so there is less friction, more speed, and less control. This is further exacerbated when the boards are wet. The seams of the hardwood planks can sometime affect the sometimes, especially if a plank has become raised.

I came upon a skateboard fall this week. Our Long Beach Police and ambulance service responded efficiently and effectively. And the boardwalk skateboard violator has learned a painful lesson:
