Wingman

Our Long Beach boardwalk is a place of fun, fitness, friends. Sometimes the friends I come upon are unique and inspiring.

When I bike our boards I see walkers, joggers, surfers. Some in attire meant to blend, some in attire meant to attract. But one I came upon had the radiance of a Long Beach sunset.

I met Harley, named for his breed, a harlequin, macaw parrot. Harley chose his friend Mike nineteen years ago when Mike allowed the two-month-old chick parrot comfort in the crook of his arm. The rest, as they say, is birdstory.
