The Great Neck Library is hosting an art exhibit at the Lower-Level Art Gallery at the Main Library Branch at 159 Bayview Avenue, Great Neck, from July 15 to August 14. Be sure to join us for an art reception on Saturday, July 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Artist Rene Efi Hakimian was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1967. He lost his parents at a young age and moved to New York with his family in 1979. At the start of the Iranian Revolution, Rene finished high school in Forest Hills, NY, and began college at C.W. Post, where he studied Art. He went on to study at SUNY in Albany, where he graduated with a major in Geography and a minor in Sociology. After graduating in 1991, Rene spent some months in Israel. He returned to New York and began painting more intensely and prolifically. His early works speak to Rene’s Middle Eastern and Jewish heritage. 
Rene spends every free moment studying and reading about philosophy and art. He has cultivated his own philosophy of life, with strong faith in destiny and the belief that all people are gifted and equal. Rene maintains a utopian life view for the future. His art expresses his complex feelings and thoughts and conveys his perception of the world, deriving a strong influence from American Psychoanalysis. He refers to his drawings as social maps. According to Rene, his artwork reflects his internal dialogue. Rene works with various media and surfaces such as oils, pastels, acrylic-colored pencils, watercolors, and penned graphics on canvas and paper. He is regularly experimenting with colors, with patterns and designs.
Picasso, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Chagall are among the most influential artists that stand out prominently in Rene’s mind. He recognizes Picasso as being very productive in his works. Picasso was able to convey reality from a point of view that makes you muse and promotes good feelings. Picasso wasn’t bothered by the reality of life and accepted it for what it was. Matisse’s work is a mix of surrealism and expressionism. Rene believes that the neatness of Matisse’s paintings allows one to be contemplative. Rene admires Van Gogh for the reason that his works are like volcanic eruptions of emotion on canvas. Chagall’s strongest imprint on Rene is his long and healthy life, lived through the age of ninety-eight. Rene sees a sort of mystic quality in Chagall’s pieces. Shared elements in this group influence Rene’s artistic style and motivation.
Rene views his time spent in museums as a therapeutic process, where he discovers himself and relates to his expression of art. He believes that everything in life is eternal. Art Reception: Arts from the Heart by Rene Efi Hakimian

With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Bodian is recognized for his expertise in dermatology, laser surgery, and modern cosmetic treatments. He received his medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, followed by an internship and research fellowship at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Bodian completed his residency at New York University, where he pursued advanced training in dermatology and laser surgery. His recent accolades include being named Top Dermatologist in the Best of North Shore, Top Doctor, and Best Botox and Dermatology Practice in the Best of Nassau County. He is a dedicated supporter of the Melanoma Foundation and is affiliated with North Shore University Hospital, Mercy Hospital, and NY Presbyterian.

RIVERHEAD NY - Victory Pro Wrestling brings its brand of live professional wrestling to Riverhead for the first time on Saturday, Aug. 1, when VPW Outside the Box takes over Box Pickleball. Championships, rivalries and careers will all be on the line as some of the promotion's biggest stars collide in an event built around matches that could reshape the future of VPW.
The night's main event settles one of VPW's fiercest rivalries inside a steel cage. VPW Champion Anthony Gangone and Alvin Alvarez meet one final time with nowhere to run and no outside interference. The stakes could not be higher. If Alvarez cannot defeat Gangone, he will never receive another VPW Championship opportunity as long as Gangone remains champion. One man walks out with the title. The other may watch his championship dream disappear forever.
The VPW New York State Championship picture also heats up as champion David Graham faces returning former champion Dante Drago. Graham enters Riverhead after an impressive victory over Filipino Grigio, but Drago returns determined to reclaim the championship he once held and remind everyone why his name still commands respect.
The VPW Tag Team Championships will be defended in a volatile triple threat match as Committed to Excellence battles Security Inc and ManteChica. The champions survived their last title defense only to be blindsided by Security Inc after the match. ManteChica has unfinished business and wants another opportunity at the gold, while questions remain about the condition of Skyler Mack after a possible injury.
Also scheduled to appear are VPW Women's Champion Amity LaVey, Powerful Ken Powers and many more of the top stars in Victory Pro Wrestling.
