Families of departed loved ones to attend in-person candle lighting service at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Old Westbury

This year, Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island will be hosting a sacred Candle Lighting Vespers Service to honor and remember the dearly departed. Special masses will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Old Westbury, Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury and Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram.
“These sacred gatherings provide a meaningful place for our community to come together in prayer and remembrance. Through this service, we will provide comfort and spiritual support to families as they honor the lives of those they have lost. Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island remains committed to fostering spaces of reflection and consolation where families find strength in their faith and in one another,” said Richard Bie, President and CEO of Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island.
Vespers is a traditional and solemn prayer service of thanksgiving and praise in the Roman Catholic faith. Families are invited to the special service to honor the memories of those who were laid to rest. The ceremony will include prayer, song and a candle lighting service. During the service, all attendees will have the opportunity to say aloud the name of their departed family members and friends.
