A Hamiltonian Consensus Alternative to Trump-Pence

A Hamiltonian Consensus Alternative to Trump-Pence examines why Trump should not be President and how the Electors can elect whom they chose

Even though Hillary Clinton won the popular vote for the presidency by over to 2.6 million votes Donald Trump won enough states to achieve a majority in the Electoral College and to become the presumptive President-Elect.
The Green Party and Jill Stein have raised enough donations to fund recounts in three key states but these recounts are unlikely to change the results.
The results can only be changed within the Electoral College itself and they should be. Donald Trump has promised repeatedly to violate the law, treaties, and the Constitution itself opening himself up to impeachment almost on his Inauguration Day.
Alexander Hamilton in Federalist Papers #68 warns that the Electoral College was created for a time when the public might chose someone with "talents for low intrigue and popularity." In this case the Electoral College was to elect a President and a Vice-President of the United States who are “pre-eminent for ability and virtue.”
Christopher Suprun, a Republican Elector from Texas has already declared that he will not vote for Donald Trump declaring Trump unfit for the office of President.
I would to ask the Electors pledged to Hillary Clinton to abandon her in favor of a coalition ticket comprised of elder statesmen representing both parties to serve for the next four years instead of Donald Trump and Michael Pence. Who would I suggest? Being a veteran I, myself, lean towards those who have served our nation instead of a President who escaped being drafted because of a foot problem that was so severe that he couldn’t remember which foot had the problem.
I would propose former Secretary of State Colin Powell for President and John Kerry for Vice-President. A coalition of a Republican and a Democrat both highly respected throughout the world, and both previously considered worthy of the highest office in our nation. Both of these men have served our nation honorably in several positions, they are of an age that it is very unlikely that they would seek re-election in 2020, and have proven to be men of their word.
To get the number of Republican Electors required the Democratic Electors will have to unite behind a respectable and competent Republican. Aside from Colin Powell, I’d feel comfortable with former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman.
The Democrats elected 232 Electors. Should they agree to a coalition ticket they would need less than 40 Republicans to join them to elect this ticket. Fewer if any of the three re-count states switch. Why should 40 Republican Electors abandon Donald Trump?
Well, again as a veteran, I’d suggest that no one who served in combat or lost someone close to them in combat should ever even consider voting for someone who used his father’s money and contacts to avoid his obligation to our nation. Is there any reason on Earth to reward a draft-dodger with the position of commander-in-chief?
Donald Trump has vast financial holding across the globe so virtually every action that he takes as President will have an impact on his finances. Trump will face conflicts of interest virtually on an hourly basis as President. His solution of having his children run a “blind trust” on his behalf is a joke with the American public as its butt.
This week, Donald Trump announced that he had already kept one of his campaign promises by saving less than half the number of jobs he promised to save at the Carrier plant in Indianapolis. Let’s award him about half of his Electoral votes as a reward and give the other half to a coalition ticket. Since he tweeted that it’s a “Great deal for workers!” he should agree that half of the Republican Electoral votes is a “Great deal for” Trump!
No Republican Elector who has taken a science class in high school or college should consider voting for climate change deniers like Trump and Pence. Donald Trump only has a fleeting relationship with science and facts.
No Republican Elector who is an attorney, has served as a lawmaker, or has respect for the law should vote for Trump because by appointing Dr. Ben Carson to a cabinet position he is openly violating federal law {18 U.S. Code Section 599} since had had promised Carson a position in exchange for his support after Carson ended his own campaign for president. Trump has further showed how he doesn’t understand how the rule of law applies to his whims by promising onerous tariffs on products made by select companies that move jobs outside of the States. Probably so he can exclude products made by his own businesses overseas.
Since Trump is turning to Goldman Sachs to fill his cadre of financial advisors no Republican Elector who lost money in the stock market, owned a house that was financially underwater, or worked for a company that went bankrupt or one that had to be bailed out during the Great Recession should vote Trump because he has pledged to appoint executives from Goldman Sachs to key government positions foreshadowing a potential second Great Recession. Have we forgotten that Goldman Sachs received ten billion dollars in bailout money from American taxpayers?
Donald Trump is very willing to create his own reality and act upon it. Time after time during the campaign he offered “people are saying” or “The Internet says” as reasons for his positions. Most recently he is claiming that millions of people voted illegally citing Clinton’s lead in the popular vote as proof.
America deserves a President grounded in reality not one grounded in “Reality TV.”
