“I have a very strong belief that patience, persistence and hard work will get you where you want to be,” says Meara Platt. For her, it did. Meara’s first Regency romance novel, the first in her Farthingale series, My Fair Lily, was published in October 2014. Her second book, The Duke I’m Going to Marry was a January 2015 release. Four months after that, Rules For Reforming A Rake came out, followed by A Midsummer’s Kiss. They were all on Amazon’s International Bestsellers list.

The fifth book in her Farthingale series, A Viscount’s Rose is set to be released soon. It’s on preorder with Amazon. “I’m blessed not only to be able to do what I love, but to have readers appreciate it,” Meara says.
She also writes novellas, one hundred page short stories that highlight the secondary characters from her novels. “They keep tugging at me so I must help them find the person they are meant to love,” she says. I’m always cheering for them when they find their happily ever after.” Meara has a free novella available to readers on her website or by subscribing to her newsletter. The novella’s called If You Kissed Me.
Aside from writing, Meara runs a busy law practice. Monday thru Friday are reserved for law. The weekends are devoted to writing and writers functions. She has herself on a very strict schedule. “I try to pace my writing schedule so that I’m not overwhelmed by deadlines,” says Meara.
It wasn’t until years after she became a lawyer that her dream of writing came to light. “After reading four or five bad novels in a row and complaining about them to my husband, he finally said, so why don’t you try writing one.” That’s what Meara did. She wrote a book. “It was a good story, but I was a horrible writer back then.”
The next step in her writing journey brought her to the Long Island Romance Writers, A Chapter OF Romance Writers of America. She’s been a member of LIRW since it began over twenty years ago. “I joined to learn the craft of writing, but I also learned about the working business side and I made valuable contacts among the publishing community.” Myra takes an active role in LIRW, monthly meetings, the annual editors/agents luncheon, historical outings, book fairs, etc. She’s held various board positions over the years and is the current president, www.LIRW.org.
“I wake up thankful every day and so appreciative where this dream has taken me,” Meara says.
