Military Veterans from Long Island Capture Inaugural "Secretary's Cup," 9-Hole Golf Match Prior to 2016 PGA Championship

In conjunction with PGA Championship week, PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America, hosted the inaugural “Secretary’s Cup,” on Sunday, July 24th at Fiddler’s Elbow CC. The 9-hole golf match featured military Veterans that have participated in PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) programming -- a 6-8 week golf clinic that introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities in order to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.

The competition consisted of Veterans representing the Metropolitan PGA Section, the Philadelphia PGA Section and the New Jersey PGA Section. Finishing at -8 under par, Team Long Island captured the inaugural Cup. PGA Professional Charlie Grego (center), who was instrumental in teaching the HOPE program at the Section level is joined by Veterans (L to R) John Sweeney, Ricky Silecchio, Ray Jones and Ron Middleton as they hoist the cup.
