Raymour & Flanigan Hosts Paws of War for Community Fundraiser Celebrating Local First Responders

Raymour & Flanigan in Lake Grove recently hosted a community fundraiser for non-profit Paws of War, which brought together community members for an afternoon of celebration, recognition and support for local Veterans, First Responders and Gold Star families.

The event was attended by over 300 people and raised over $22,000, which will directly support local heroes through Paws of War’s ongoing programs and initiatives.

Additionally, the event provided an opportunity for community members to personally meet and connect with those who have given so much in service to others.

A highlight of the afternoon was a special recognition ceremony honoring first responders who served during the 9/11 attacks. This year commemorates the 25th anniversary of 911 and the event paid tribute to those effected. One of the recipients of the event was Leo Russ, who will be receiving a service dog from Paws of War. Russ, a 70-year-old retired FDNY firefighter, was a responder to both events at the World Trade Center; the 1993 bombing and the attacks of September 11, 2001. As a result of his service, Leo sustained multiple line-of-duty injuries, including a knee injury that required replacement in 2005. He has also undergone a reverse shoulder replacement and surgery for a major rotator cuff tear. In addition, Leo battled prostate cancer related to his exposure on September 11th and is now in remission.

“Our Veterans, first responders and Gold Star families have made extraordinary sacrifices for our communities,” said a Raymour & Flanigan manager Barone. “Bringing so many people together at our Lake Grove location and raising over $22,000 demonstrates the true impact a community can make and deliver meaningful support where it’s needed most.”

The event also featured music students from Rock and Roll U of Hauppauge, who showcased their talents for the audience. A stunning rendition of the National Anthem was sung by Candice Night and her daughter who moved everyone there.
