SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Championship celebrations, postseason runs, and season-ending honors highlighted another standout week for student-athletes across Suffolk County.
Smithtown West Boys Basketball Wins Long Island Championship
Smithtown High School West’s boys varsity basketball team capped off what is being called the greatest season in program history with a 65-50 win over South Side to claim the Long Island Championship on March 11.

Just days earlier, the Bulls secured their first-ever Suffolk County championship, defeating Half Hollow Hills West 98-68 in the Class AA final at Stony Brook University.
Head coach Mike Agostino credited the win to the team’s relentless effort throughout the season.

“It’s tremendous. It’s a combination of so much hard work,” Agostino said. “So many days in practice these guys battled all day, every day — and that’s why they’re champions.”
William Floyd Girls Basketball Advances To State Final Four
The William Floyd High School girls varsity basketball team, the New York State Class AAA regional champions, was sent off with a school-wide celebration as it advanced to the Final Four of the state tournament.
The Colonials fell short in their matchup against Aquinas Institute of Rochester, 65-37, on Thursday at the Hudson Valley Community College McDonough Sports Complex in Troy.
Deer Park Celebrates Winter Athletes At Annual Awards Night
Deer Park High School recognized its winter athletes during its annual varsity sports awards night on March 12, honoring student-athletes across nine programs.

Athletes from cheerleading, kickline, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, boys bowling, boys swimming and diving, and boys and girls winter track were celebrated during the ceremony.
Led by Athletic Director Dominick Fontana, the event featured the presentation of awards, including Most Valuable Player, Coach's Award, Spirit Award, and Scholar-Athlete honors.

The ceremony, held in a packed auditorium, brought together families, coaches, and teammates to celebrate the athletes’ dedication and accomplishments throughout the winter season.
