Boys Pull Off Final Home Win, Blazers Extinguish Ladies' Lead

West Hempstead boys basketball wins on senior night, while Lady Rams fall short at Great Neck North.

BOYS SHINE ONE LAST TIME AT HOME

Team captains Darnell Davy and Greg Cecere took the floor along with Tom Valerio, Mike Mangino and Brandon Zapelli for the Rams starting five on Friday night against Great Neck North.

The five seniors would be playing their last home game in front of the Ram faithful.

"It's a special night for these guys," said Head Coach Ed Cosgrove. "It will be there last regular season game in front of the home crowd."

The Rams did not disappoint beating the Blazers 58-57 in a tightly contested back and forth game.

Davy led the Rams with 16 points and Tom Valerio had two three pointers for 6 points.

With the win the Rams locked up third place in the conference and have assured themselves a spot in the upcoming playoffs.

They remain two spots behind Manhasset and Floral Park.

They will travel to Floral Park on Monday at 4pm for their last regular season game

BLAZERS EXTINGUISH LADY RAMS LEAD

It was looking good for the Lady Rams on Friday night. They had a 13-4 first quarter lead on Great Neck North and everything was working in their favor.

Unfortunately the Lady Blazers picked up their offense in the second quarter, scoring 19 points to take a 23-20 lead into halftime.

They scored 13 more points in the third and held West Hempstead to only 6 effectively putting the game out of reach for the Lady Rams.

The final score was Great Neck North 46 West Hempstead 40.

Katie Lynch led the Rams with 14 points and 3 three point shots.

The Lady Rams will play their final season game at home on Monday against Floral Park at 6:30 p.m.
