Boys Soccer: The Cougars struggled to create a multitude of offensive opportunities against visiting Herricks on Monday, dropping a close 1-0 game. Kennedy is now 2-2-0 in its last four games in Conference III. Zach Haefling, who took over the starting goalkeeping spot after the first four games, has 31 saves since then.

Boys Soccer: Mepham fell to Elmont for the second time this season, the latest loss coming by way of a 2-1 decision at home. Harrison Dorcilien scored in the first half to keep the Pirates in the game until Benji Alonge put in his second goal past Steve Fotinos, who finished with six saves, late in the second half.

EAST MEADOWClarke
Field Hockey: Time and time again, the Clarke field hockey team (7-0-3) finds a way to stay out of the losing column. On Monday, visiting North Shore took the Lady Rams to the brink, as Clarke won 2-1 in overtime behind a great goal from Nicole Gibaldi. Emma Foster now has a team-leading nine goals on the season after she scored in the second half.

LONG BEACHBoys Soccer: Long Beach is now unbeaten in its last three games (1-0-2) after a 1-1 tie on Monday against visiting Carey. Dylan Palacio came through with a goal, his fourth of the season, in the final 10 minutes to tie the score at 1-1. Nicholas Alfonso stopped six shots against a third-place Carey team in the Conference III matchup.

LYNBROOKBoys Soccer: Lynbrook hung tough with visiting Floral Park, but fell by a 2-1 score, with all three goals coming in the first half. James Cullen scored off of a pass from Mike Milillo to tie the score, but Floral Park sneaked one passed Owls’ goalkeeper Evan Foley from the outside of the box to take the lead for good. Lynbrook won its previous two games prior to the loss.

SEAFORDField Hockey: Seaford could not get past a talented New Hyde Park team on the road, losing by a 7-0 score and dropping to 3-7-0 on the season, despite solid play from Carissa Fraser, Kara Murphy and Marissa Scialti. The Lady Vikings now must head to Friends Academy on Tuesday afternoon.

WANTAGHGirls Volleyball: Wantagh seems to have its eye on another Long Island title this season, advancing to a perfect 8-0 after a five-set win over Manhasset on the road. Down 2-1 in the set count, Wantagh dominated the final two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-19. Both of these teams won Nassau County titles in 2010 in their respective conferences. Carly Simeone was able to control the offense with a season-high 48 assists, many of which went to Jenny Illibassi, who finished with 17 kills and 10 digs. In the last three games, Illibassi, who is a senior captain this season, has recorded 46 kills and 26 digs.
