Lynbrook Defeats West Hempstead, 15-12

An 11-run fifth inning propels Lady Owls to victory in season opener.

The bottom of the fifth inning was where it all came together for the Lady Owls softball team in a Tuesday home game against West Hempstead.

After being down 8-4 to start the inning, Lynbrook's bats came alive in its season opener at Atlantic Avenue field.

G. Sarlo and Kristy Harvey had two doubles and two singles to spark the comeback rally. Junior first baseman Kasey Keller had a double, and pitcher Rebecca Tisdell and B. Greene added singles.

The girls scored 11 runs, taking a commanding 15-8 lead into the sixth inning. The Lady Rams, however, had a small comeback of its own in the top of the sixth.

With a full count she came through in the clutch, striking out the final batter and giving the Lady Owls a hard-earned victory.

"It was a long game with a lot of offense on both sides," said head coach Pete Toscano. "We were down early by six or seven runs but were able to come through with our hitting.

"Defensively it was not the best game for us," he added, "but we did what we had to do on the offensive side."
